Passports

To enter Sri Lanka, passports should have one blank page and be valid for no less than six months from the date of arrival.


Visas

Visas to Sri Lanka are required by all nationals referred to in the chart above. It is no longer possible to obtain a visa on arrival. Tourists must apply online through the Electronic Travel Authorization System (ETA) (www.eta.gov.lk) and pay the requisite application fee.

Business and transit passengers also require visas.

Nationals not referred to in the chart are advised to contact the nearest embassy or high commission to check visa requirements for Sri Lanka.


Types of Visa and Cost

Transit visa: free; double-entry tourist visa: US$30. Children under 12 are exempt from paying a visa fee for stays of up to 30 days. You can also apply for a visa through the embassy/high commission. The fees are as follows: Tourist visa: £35 (up to 30 days); £45 (30-90 days).


Validity

Transit visas: two days; double-entry ETA tourist visa: 30 days; tourist visa from embassy/high commission: 30 or 90 days.

Working Days Required

The ETA tourist visa generally takes two days to come through. If you apply through the embassy/high commission, allow three working days for visa processing.




Visitors can request to extend their ETA by applying to the Department of Immigration & Emigration (www.immigration.gov.lk). This is issued at the discretion of the authorities who must be satisfied that the applicant has sufficient funds and holds an onward or return ticket for travel.
